My New Muse

My unforgettable trip through Europe last summer had a profound impact on me and the way I view fashion and personal style. Seeing the gorgeous women of Paris walking down the Champs-Élysées and the ladies of Venezia purposefully sipping espressos in the outdoor patios was like watching paintings in motion. All of these women had something in common: they were incredibly, undeniably stylish. Even in jeans and a t-shirt, these women radiated confidence and had a certain je ne sais quoi about them. Instead of only wearing fashion on their bodies, they lived and breathed it through their speech and actions. What stood out to me was the quality of the clothing they wore. It was clear they didn’t run to the nearest “fast-fashion” store chasing after each new trend; these ladies invested in pieces that would fashionably carry them through the decades. I’m learning the importance of investing in quality clothing and even welcoming the empty space in my closet that inevitably happens when you purchase one quality item instead of five cheap ones.

When I discovered Muse Apparel, it was a no-brainer that I had found a clothing line worth investing in. The dresses immediately reminded me of the designs I saw last summer in Europe and my eyes were drawn to this delicate little black dress. The sleek, subtle detailing puts this LBD above and beyond any other I’ve seen. It was difficult to choose just one and I was torn between these ones as well (here and here). Have a look at their site and let me know which is your favourite!  xx

Metallic Accents

distressed denimThese jeans are the product of my entire Tuesday night, spending a solid three hours pulling threads from these jeans to achieve the “Oh, these jeans? I’ve had these so long the holes are natural” look. Yeah right. Pulling each thread to create the ripped effect was causing my head to spin. And these shoes have literally sat in the back of my closet (and the back of my car) for… seven… years. Thank goodness metallic pumps came back in style when they did because these babies were doomed for the thrift store on multiple occasions. Something always stopped me from donating them though … I guess my fashion intuition was subconsciously telling me that metallic pumps would eventually come back in style. And they did. In a bit way. And I love it.

My Favourite Tee

For 57 cents, this beauty fills the void of a comfy grey t-shirt that my closet has been experiencing for far too long. Perfect for those days I just don’t feel like doing my hair or makeup (i.e. today). Love a t-shirt that can double as a pajama top, too. It’s all about practicality! xx

This weekend was all about healing, letting go of the past and moving forward into the future. You know those moments when you look around and everything is perfect? When time slows down and everything inside you and around you feels at peace? I experienced this over the weekend when I had a sleepover at my grandma’s with my auntie Kelly and cousin Brittany who are all so beautifully and spiritually in tune with themselves and their surroundings. I’ve held on to a lot of pain from my childhood due to my mom’s passing and Mother’s Day is a particularly tough day for me. To be able to spend the weekend with such strong, smart women was incredibly therapeutic. Sitting in the garden, listening to the birds, laughing with each other – it was exactly what I needed.

Parisian Inspiration

DSC_0203

By the time I get home from the office most nights, the sun is already setting and casting terrible shadows all over the street. It makes it hard to find a decent place to take photos of my outfits, hence why I’m standing on the side of a mountain in heels. It looks a little unnatural, doesn’t it! Finally, after traipsing all over the countryside in heels, we found a spot where the light was just right. This dress is another treat I recently received in the mail from ASOS (check out my last post to see the heels and denim skirt I got too) and the purse was a very special gift I got from Rich the summer we were dating long distance. Feels like a life time ago!
